Thick octavo; publisher's cloth in black decorative dust jacket retaining original price (8/6); 651pp. Jacket extremities rather rubbed with a few small chips and small tears, red and green titling to jacket spine panel with slightly ragged top and tail., Cloth corners lightly bumped, A Very Good, internally clean and sound copy, nicer than frequently encountered. The British author's most famous work of fiction, a historic novel set in a poor mining community in New South Wales. The work was quickly adapted into the 1941 film, directed by John Ford, which famously beat out both "Citizen Kane" and "The Maltese Falcon" for the Academy Award for Best Picture.
