£400 - £800
The Variation of Animals and Plants under Domestication. In Two Volumes. With Illustrations. 1868 First and Second Editions. Volume One is the second issue, with substantial textual variations, which was published in a run of 1,250 copies in February 1858 and is distinguished by a single erratum in volume one. Volume Two has nine errata over seven lines in line with the fist edition of that volume. Original green cloth, spines lettered and decorated in gilt, covers panelled in blind, dark green coated endpapers. Condition is poor overall with board edges scuffed and bumped. Spine top and bottom on both volumes ragged through finger pull, with some loss. Marks and stains. Both volumes feel loose with all boards showing some play and cracked spines etc. Some page sections pulling but all holding. Minor ageing. Estimate reflects condition.
