Condition: Acceptable A pocket-sized two volume set on birds profusely illustrated with engravings. A thorough and fascinating two volume work on ornithology. Contains chapters on the anatomy of birds, their flight, structure and classifications, before specialist chapters on the eagles and hawks, vultures, owls, ravens, penguins, water-birds, pinnipedes, ducks, palmipedes and longipennes. Written by Rev. Edward Stanley of Alderley (1779-1849), a rector and expert ornithologist with an interest in education and natural sciences.Profusely illustrated with engraved full plates and vignettes throughout, each volume with a full frontispiece illustration. In a full cloth binding. Externally cloth is grubby with wear to extremities and bumped corners. Both have finger crush to spine ends and ragged damage, particularly to volume 2. Interior: Pages ageing and with play. A couple of plates loose. generally clean. Published by John W Parker.
